What our patients say about us

Frequently asked questions

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a healthcare approach that focuses on treating and managing pain and dysfunction in the soft tissues (muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments). Myotherapists use various manual therapy techniques, like massage and trigger point therapy, to address these issues. While some practitioners might incorporate elements of exercise or rehabilitation, it’s not a universal practice of it.

How does Myotherapy differ from other forms of therapy?

There can be some overlap between different therapies, but here’s a general comparison:

    • Myotherapy: Focuses on treating soft tissue dysfunction and pain using manual therapy techniques.
    • Physiotherapy: A broader field of physical therapy that encompasses rehabilitation after injury, improving movement and function, and managing various conditions. Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques including manual therapy, exercise prescription, and modalities like ultrasound or electrical stimulation.
    • Chiropractic Care: Primarily focuses on the spine and musculoskeletal system, with a philosophy that spinal alignment issues can influence overall health. Chiropractors use manual adjustments and manipulations to address these alignment issues.

What are the benefits of your training compared to regular personal training?

This personalised approach goes beyond simple exercise.

    • Enhance your range of motions and reduce muscle pain: address limitations and create a more comfortable training experience, allowing you to move freely and efficiently.
    • Boost your performance: Experience greater strength gains, improved endurance, and overall better exercise results as you reach your fitness goals faster.

What qualifications should a personal trainer working with myotherapy techniques have?

Look for a trainer with a Certified Personal Trainer certification to ensure they have the knowledge and skills for safe and effective training.

Ideally, the trainer should also have experience in myofascial release techniques or other manual therapy approaches commonly used in myotherapy.

    Will personal training hurt?

It shouldn’t cause excessive pain. A qualified practitioner will work within your tolerance level and adjust pressure based on your feedback.

While some temporary discomfort or soreness is common during and after the session, it shouldn’t be sharp or unbearable. If you experience any pain that feels excessive, communicate openly with your trainer.

How can I combine myotherapy and personal training?

While combined sessions incorporating both elements might not be standard, collaboration is key. Discuss your goals with both your myotherapist and personal trainer. They can work together to create a program that integrates its techniques and personalised training exercises to optimise your fitness journey.
